Arrow leaved coltsfoot (petasites sagittatus)
Our very earliest wildflower. This week they are just starting to open. They grow in wet areas and the flowering stalks come before the leaves.

So unassuming looking… then boom! What an amazing show! 🙂
That’s an excellent description of these flowers, Teresa. And they smell fantastic too.
Do you know why it’s called coltsfoot?
What lovely flowers it has. And I love how they look before they open.
There are a few different varieties, but apparently one of the European type has leaves that look like a colts foot. I can’t really see any similarity, but I’m probably not doing it right.
Thanks. It’s such an evocative name.
I’ve never heard of or seen this plant. The flowers are beautiful!
Thanks for you visit and comment, Rhonda. I think that’s what’s fun about this wildflower wednesday idea. Each place has it’s own unique flowers and it’s great to introduce people to new plants!
You should make it a photo challenge and invite others to play. 🙂
Okay let’s do it! I got the idea from Tim Livingston.
