So much for almost being done with this painting, apparently adding some slash debris is not a one day affair. As often happens, my painting is taking itself in a new unforeseen direction. That’s ok, I’m just along for the ride…

where the arts meet and are forever changing
I like your title – just along for the ride – I also see the process this way. After many years of overthinking and planning too much, it seems my process became more fun when I stopped trying to control it. A dialogue with the image as it appears is so much more interesting than chasing an ideal perceived image.
Thanks so much for your great comment. I plan somewhat, I use a photo for a source but at some point the painting goes in its own, and I can only tag along.
Adhering too closely to a source can render the work into an illustration. I’m all for letting the process be the guide.
I totally agree! The painting becomes itself.
